We sat around thinking about getting a drummer for a month and then out of nowhere Marty walks in with this crude looking metal box. You could not even open it, it had knobs down one side of it, there was a wire coming out of it to go to an amp. It was a drum machine made by a furniture manufacturer of all people. It was usually used for bar mitzvahs and that sort of thing. We used it for “Ghost Rider” and “Rocket USA”, we just speeded it up a bit and slowly, but surely, we started getting songs. In the early days we did not have songs as such. The drum machine solved the drummer problem, we did not have to pay anybody. It meant we had an extra dollar to get a sandwich each day.
