NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT [Episode #496 ~ 05-23-26]

Pictured: I-Roy (a.k.a. Roy Reid).
U-Roy’s imitators were legion, but only a handful were any good. I-Roy, an accountant from Spanish Town, was one of the earliest and one of the best…I-Roy, widely accused of stealing everything from U-Roy including most of his name, was actually a brilliant original, with a big reverb boom and an utterly penetratin shriek that could turn the brains into boiled ackee…I-Roy was even goofier than U-Roy, splicing his cracked riffs with street games, idiotic ramblings, cheap doggerel and nursery phrases…But I-Roy was also known for his comic savagery, as demonstrated on the great set of feud records exchanged by I-Roy and another famous dub deejay, Prince Jazzbo…The I-Roy-Prince Jazzbo feud was eagerly consumed by Jamaican fans and made money for both deejays. I-Roy kept sneaking insidious Jazzbo jabs into new songs until Jazzbo became a ridiculous figure and his career as a reggae madman was somewhat in eclipse.
