Samantha came out at the end of the year, a brilliant green double-fold package that pictured Pamelo waving from the driver’s seat of a fancy car and proclaimed him ‘No.1.’ The music seconded the notion. Pamelo had returned with a head full of gentle melodies and he voiced them with unwavering aplomb. “She’s only my secretary” (“Ce N’est Que Ma Secretaire”), he pleads in the face of rumors of another woman in his life. “Don’t be jealous / You are my love.”

The local heat wave continued unabated, making management’s refusal to reopen The Outdoor Patio™ at the Purple Bat Lounge all the more galling. No one felt this injustice more than co-host Lee-Roy, a once-proud pit bull now reduced to extending his paw as bartender LaWanda shut the beer cooler, thus ensuring that the latter appliance’s door would remain partly open and offer some faint measure of respite. The tunes flowed regardless of personal discomfort, as the brindled selector and his co-host Reeshard soothed the collective savage breast with music delivered at lease-breaking volume.
